This post is purely for fun! Not looking to get another dog anytime soon, but I will likely write down the suggestions for future ideas.

1. Size. Due to some problems I‘ve been blessed with (lol) I really can’t have anything over 20 pounds and would love a dog under 10 with 3-5 being ideal.

2. Low shedding and/or single coated. I’m allergic to German shepherd like coats...not sure why, but I’m assuming it’s the double coat considering I’m also allergic to my smooth coat Saint Bernard which has the same type.

3. Not a breed that is known for picking fights with other dogs. Socialization is key, of course, but a more peaceful dog would be nice.

4. Trainable! I love training, teaching dozens of tricks, and messing around with agility.

5. Energy level isn’t a big deal to me. I walk my dogs two miles a day and we play a lot of fetch on a 100ft line along with some agility and random training sessions mixed throughout the day.

So if you feel like it, match me to the breed/s you think would be the best fit!

My top choice would be a Papillon. They are friendly, trainable, and intelligent. Unlike a lot of small breeds that were bred to be ratters, Papillons have always been companion dogs. While they are energetic and will stand up for themselves, they are not supposed to have the killer instinct of a terrier. The Papillon is a relatively healthy breed: they have much lower frequency of the syringomyelia problems found in the other toy spaniels, and they don't have the breathing problems of they brachycephalic breeds. Their upright ears make them less prone to yeast infections in the ear canal.

My neighbor has two yorkies, they are the sweetest dogs on the block. I say they are the sweetest because my mini schnauzer boy is a ratter, 19lbs. He is very affectionate and cuddly but not so much a lap dog, he would prefer being beside you or in the same room than right on top of you unless we are wrestling. Otherwise he fits your criteria as well. I'd say they are pretty high energy and love outdoors and wildlife (to chase mostly haha).

After researching and researching to determine the right kind of breed of a dog would best suit us (and best suit him/her) we decided on a pug! We are finally in a position in our lives when it is possible to have a dog. I have wanted one for YEARS....over 10 years in fact, and I have always wanted a pug. I love their termperment, their personality, the fact that while small, they are kind of "a big dog in a small body

Make sure you have good financial plans in place. Most pugs are conformationally unsound, with breathing issues, dental and mouth problems, spinal issues ...

Boston Terrier - dogs with a wonderful and unique personality - smart, energetic, affectionate, pure fun! They are average 23-24 pounds. I've owned many breeds of dogs through the years and now 2 boston terriers and the personality of the boston is unique from all other breeds in my view, only those who have owned a boston can relate to this, they are the little clowns of the dog world in a good way and provide for endless hours of enjoyment. If you choose this breed it would be helpful to view the parents prior to getting one, as JoanneF mentioned above the boston, like the pug, has a shorter muzzle which can cause some breathing issues and don't tend to tolerate high temps well for long periods of time, pick one from parents with the longer muzzle trait and I can attest I've had no issues with the breathing or temps, otherwise a pretty healthy breed.
