So this morning I thought Trucker was chewing on his bone like a good boy when I caught a glimpse of shiny blue, it was an ornament. I only have plastic ornaments on my tree this year because we are still in an adjustment period and I wasn't sure how Trucker would react to a Christmas Tree.

I easily got him to drop the ornament but could not find the small metal ornament hanger anywhere. Trucker is not know to eat/swallow things he steals, even the very small ones. He normally crews on them then spits them right out.

So I am wondering if he inadvertently swallowed the hanger while chewing on the ornament or if I could just not find the tiny little bugger in the carpet.

I plan to call the vet as soon as I get home (they were not open before I came into work and I don't have a phone at work). Also I am going to closely monitor him but is there anything else I should do in case he did swallow the ornament hanger?

i dont think it will do him much damage if he has, because it is not really a sharp object, if we are talking about an "S" shaped one. i would feed him, it was mentioned yesterday in a post about a dog eating a small peace of glass, that bread is recommended? but i think just normal dogfood will do, just so the hanger dosnt pass trough on an empty stomach. id allso let the dog eat grass, if Trucker is one of them dogs that likes to eat grass, and yes, ring the vet just to be on the safe side. hope he will be ok.

He loves grass :) and he did it just after eating his breakfast so no empty stomach :) he just enjoys making me worry and being a brat.

I really don't mean to laugh....because it is worrisome in thinking there's a bit of metal in there....

But the thought of 'if that hanger only get's half way out of the back side....a dog might make an interesting ornament. :p (sorry, I have a 'Farside' sense of humor sometimes)

I hope everything turns out ok. My dog Harper (the one in my avatar) use to eat all kinds of things. The glow in the dark toy football was the most interesting...for a while at night, I could see little flecks of glowing green out on my lawn...and knew just where the dog piles were at, made it a lot easier to do the pooper scooping ever other day or so there for a time.

@StormyPeak I know what you mean. :p He loves his rope and I am forever finding red rope pieces when I "clean" the yard. It is normally the only thing he ingests when he decides to be a thief and chew things up. I am figuring he will be fine, he is a pretty big dogs (so pretty big intestines). I just want to make sure that I wasn't supposed to do anything I didn't know about like have him throw it up or something.

Even though it MAY not do much damage, the hook could get caught while trying to pass through the intestines. Watch for bloody poo/pee and rush him to the vet if you notice this. It should pass in a maximum of 2 days (provided it doesnt get stuck somewhere) and if you want to be extra careful wash his poo and check for the little piece. Or if you want to be SUPER careful take him in and get an x-ray done which could be a tad bit costly. I hope I helped!

P.S. I didn't read through all the posts so I'm sorry if I missed a bit of info on his condition.
