Hello everyone,

I am new here but have a problem I am very worried about.

My Rottweiler Freddie has possibly swallowed a large rubber ball. I turned my back for a moment and the ball was gone. I have looked everywhere and I can only think he has swallowed it.

It is slight larger than a tennis ball, rubber and squashy. It's one of those you put treats in but he likes to play fetch and chew it.

Could he have swallowed this?

I am so worried about him, we took him to the emergency vets in the night but they sort of said 'wait and see' but I dont want to do that and it be too late.

What should I do? Will he be okay?

At the emergency vets they said that an x ray may not show a rubber ball. Will our vets say the same? I am very concerned about him but they said that because he was not showing any 'symptoms' there was not a lot they could do. I am not happy about this approach however as I am worried about what could happen to him.

I'm no expert, but I have seen x-rays of dogs (online) who have swallowed a variety of things, and a few of them were rubber balls, and they showed clearly, but maybe some wouldn't show depending on location and size. I would at the very least call your regular vet and voice your concerns and ask for an x-ray for peace of mind. In the mean time, keep looking around for the rubber ball just to make sure it didn't roll somewhere out of sight. Good luck.

No one here can say if he will be fine or not. I'd go to my regular vets and get their opinion. He may possibly throw it back up in a day or so, but go see your regular vet. I hope everything works out for you and your dog.
