I have groomed my own dogs for over 30 years. I have groomed poodles and schnauzers. And now my Schnoodle. That is the only dogs I have had. I use professional clippers that I buy at a dog groomers supply store. I have saved a lot of money through the years clipping my own dogs. I am self taught.

I groom my shih tzu/poodle mixes myself, too. They're the first dogs I've owned that have required extensive grooming and even though they had some pretty rough looking cuts in the beginning, I've gotten a lot better at it. Professional quality clippers definitely make a difference and I need to get some of those curved scissors for making their feet look rounder. It certainly is a money saver!

I'd love to see some before and after pictures of your dog(s)!

Gosh there are so many cute dogs all over this site. My boyfriend had a schnauzers when he was a kid and still has always wanted another one. I hear that they are not good with kids, is this true? His was great with him when he was a boy.

I've groomed my shelties myself for over 20 years also. Now I groom the rescues that come in. Some of them are in real bad shape. I've taken up to three hours removing mats and fecies from their fur before bathing just to retain as much coat as I can. Some times it's impossible to get them dematted then I use a clippers but only as a last resort.

This is a picture of my pack last September. Most of these dogs are already placed in forever homes but I wanted you to see just how much grooming I do in a week. I do a dog a day including my own...

It's a labor of love. It's work yes but I love a clean dog..

Hugs

PHPong, your dogs are beautiful!

Rescue squad, you've got way more patience than I do! I commend you for your rescue work. :)

DT, I think any dog can be good with kids as long as they are raised with them.

That dog is 4 months old I have had him about 3 weeks. I am trying to fatten him up. But seems he runs it off no matter what he eats. I am feeding him puppy food.

I groom my Mini Schnauzer myself. He is the first dog I have had that needed grooming. I bought a video off Ebay to learn. Speaking of I need to groom him today. :) I am wanting to take his skirt and leg hair shorter here soon. I have always left it on the longer side but he gets grass, pine needles, snow stuck in it so I am wanting to take it shorter.

Awww, your dog is just cute as all get out and you do a wonderful job of grooming.

I also groom my own dogs, but I have a heads up. I started working for a breeder of show poodles when I was 16 and then went on to work for a top handler of show poodles, shih tzus, maltese, alfgans, basically any coated breed other than terriers. I then went on to have my own pet grooming business. I'll be 50 in a couple days, so I have a bit of experience,.

At this point in my life, I just groom my own dogs, which as far as groomable dogs right now, is one standard poodle. I have a set up in the basement, all proffessional equiptment. And because I just do the one, I'm able to keep him in a nice fluffy trim. Sometimes I get silly and he has to suffer through some artist trims, sometimes I get lazy and just buzz him, but for the most part, I like to keep him in a neat, but still fluffy poodle trim.

The best way to groom and train your dog is to get the training done right at your home. Better Dogs is one such trainer. They provide palm beach dog training and similar services right at your home! You can visit their website for more details.

Good Luck!

i used to groom my cocker spaniel myself, right down to the cute little bow in her ear, i didn't have a table or anything, but she would sit/stand/lay perfectly still for the whole thing and i never really trained her for it, she was just one of those dogs who really "got it" the first time you showed her anything!she was probably the smartest dog ever! (of course, i think they are all the smartest dog ever....:))

I had a saint bernard mix that had a lot of hair, and I was ten at the time. I clipped him and everything pretty well. Never nicked him either.
Btw, your dogs are so cute! :)
