How NOT to train your dog

I want to make it absolutely clear that you should NOT TRAIN using any method on this thread. I just thought it would be a funny (and sad, I know) thread to share bad training videos. If the mods think it will be too confusing to new members, feel free to alpha roll me.

lets get back to videos :) I keep finding ok ones...seems like most of the bad ones on YT are buried a bit..

Yeah, I found that first one totally on accident a month ago.

OMG, This is hilarious. THere is foul language, you are warned.
 That's how a lot of people train. I like how Scooter was acting like he wanted to play the whole time.
Glad that dog in crios vid was chained up and under control... it was so outof control otherwise.

Lol Scooter's cute. Actually when mum yells at deedee for being in the garden Deedee hops out and acts like he does. She does it more so when I yell at her. Though I yell at her for no reason but to see he do an excited bum wriggle
TBH, the force fetch training was a lot less terrible than some stuff like that I've read about. I've read about dogs screaming during this training. That lab looked pretty emotionally stable overall. I know if anyone did that to Josey, Josey would have a mental breakdown. I can see how a skilled FF trainer could teach this behavior on a very stable temperament dog, and not ruin the dog.

What's a shame about all that, is its so unnecessary to use pain to train a retrieve. In the last 3 evenings Tessa has learned a pretty good retrieve just by shaping with the clicker training method a la Jean Donaldson. She went from an avid "keep away" dog to a happy retriever in just a few 5 minute sessions. and she loves it! And she really has very little natural retrieving behaviors in her to start with.

Those force fetch guys have been using pain as a motivator for so long, they don't even realize dogs will do stuff for fun, rather than simply to avoid punishment. I think many of these men were raised with spankings and other physical punishment from their fathers, (and that is what made them "men") so they think pain is the best way to learn. Sure, it works, and for really experienced trainers, it can be done without turning the dog into a nervous wreck, but it certainly is a dumb way to do it.

this video should be titled "how to create a robot"

A correction with the prong collar needs to be done at the right time otherwise it's cruel...
Ya... like never if possible.
indeed :)

basically, you're causing pain when the dog approaches another in a friendly way. So now, other dog=pain.

this can go down two paths...maybe three

That was sad to watch the dog's face flinch when she corrected him. :(

I found one last night that had some guy holding his RG dog down by the neck (he ended up getting bit). It was really awful.
Here's one I know has been posted before but it needs to be here too.

I love that video esme, but I don't see whats wrong with it? I like to push breeze around and yell at her when we tug lol it gets her really excited!
Isn't she an awesome trainer? and she\s just showing what bad trainer do?
@ the very first video. Why in the heck would somebody tempt and intrigue their puppy into biting them and then discipline them?! How would he like it if we smacked him in the face??? I wish that dog would have bit him realllly hard.

Yeah, I think so. Her dog has been CCed to enjoy the light hitting. She's just demoing a bad dog owner. ;)

She is an awesome trainer. She is showing what you can do to build drive by "acting" bad. Breeze loooves being "beaten" and yelled at when tugging. If you do what she's doing to actually try to teach the dog to drop that would be bad. But the dog she's using is having a blast and knows it's all play :)

Oh no, I meant that most people don't do that kind of thing to teach the dog to have more drive, they do it cause they have no idea how to correctly train their dog and they actually do get mad and hit the dog out of anger. Which IMO is different from doing it as a game to desensitize a dog to that sort of thing.
