I have a six month old teddy bear dog his name is Milo. He recently got a hotspot under his chin and was digging at it for sometime. When I finally realized what it was i went to the pet store and purchased a product called DogMD Maximum defense hotspot skin remedy. I have been applying that for three days now and it has been getting better. I clean the hotspot twice a day with warm water and then apply the ointment. I have been applying that for three days now and it has been getting better. I am worried because after I apply the ointment Milo runs around the house and tries to hide underneath things. He runs away from me and seems stressed out after I apply the ointment. I am not able to trim the hair around the area because he freaks out and won’t let me. He has an appointment in two weeks but I am not sure if I should wait that long. I’m not sure if this is normal behavior or if I should try something else.? The hotspot has scabbed over with a hard surface that is brown. Underneath that spot the Skin is turning red. I feel so bad and don’t know what to do please help!

My rough coated collie got a hot spot after the warm weather hit and by the time I found it hidden under all that hair it did look sore, red and nasty, poor girl. Off to the vet we went who prescribed a shampoo with an antibiotic called PhytoVet C. After only one day of using it, I could not believe how much it had cleared up! They did have to shave and clean the area first.
Any chance you could get an appointment sooner than two weeks?

When my dog had hotspots, the vet shaved his fur. It was much worse looking than I first thought it would be, he gave me an antibiotic I think, but most importantly he said he had environmental allergies and we got a medicine called apoquel which controls the itching. It is seasonal, so I only give it to him when he is scaratching but he has not had any more hot spots.
