I promised I'd keep you all updated. Our local vet had remained adamant that damage to the cruciate ligament had been ruled out during the initial investigations and suggested that a £1800 FHO op was our only option.

We've today taken him to a specialist ortho vet in Towcester and upon looking at the previous x-rays and examining Charlie, it took them about 2 minutes to confirm it was indeed a cruciate injury. He had the op this morning and it was in fact a complate rupture that also required his meniscus to be removed.

So good news in that we've got to the bottom of things and are hopefully well on the way to recovery and Charlie being able to run over the park again. Less good - had we been more trusting of my local vet we could easily have spent £1800 on a FHO op that wouldn't have fixed the problem!

We're picking up Charlie tomorrow - thanks again to you all for your comments and concern.

Looks like people really like that sling. My dog has a recent diagnosis of hip dysplasia and we've been using the Ortocanis rear support harness. It's really helped me a single mom to get my big lab up and down stairs and especially in and out of the car. Hopefully it'll continue to work for us for awhile more..
