Hello from Canada, my name is Kat. It was a bit of a surprise so soon.....but....Ozzy came home Friday night!!!! He is a black and silver miniature schnauzer 😊

He will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. He is so sweet and wonderful, he has definitely stolen our hearts in these 4 days!

We are seasoned dog owners, but haven't had a pup in 15 years! But it's like Ozzy has been with us much longer, he is so comfortable and made himself at home almost right away. He is much braver everyday, and finally I think I see his true personality, so sweet, playful, loves his food and sleeps well. What else could we ask for?

I admit, it's really hard to get pics when he's awake lol, so I don't have any great pics, but took a few vids.

And here he is Day 2

I have some reading to do, but I hope to learn and meet some of you and your pups!

I'm so busy with these two, not in a bad way, just hardly get a chance to take a pic!

Quickly I will say she is the biggest cuddlebug puppy, she'll climb on my lap anytime she gets, loves to sleep right on me, loves to be held and cuddled. Despite that, she doesn't seem to care much if she left alone in a room which is a total opposite of Ozzy. Like she won't follow me away from the area rug. She has yet to venture down the hallway which is off limits for now anyway. So funny how they all have different personalities!

Still in the early days obviously, but I can this being so much fun once we set into a better routine.

Ozzy seems like he's finally starting to accept Lily as his little sister, like actually a puppy dog and not a ball of fluff. He's much less huffy today, although he whined at the neighbor's dogs through the fence and got them barking and also he's a little more barky at the window which is not his usual self. So I think he still has a bit of a bunch in his bum fur 😋. But today after our walk we played a bit of chase in the house (he runs around from me with a toy). Lily joined in the action when she realized I was going after him and he started to be more interested in her chasing him than me! Doesn't go as well when they reverse rolls and he tries to chase her because she still gets a bit scared, but they are doing a lot better together. This is progressing pretty well I'd say.

Today I took her with us in a pet carrier when I took Ozzy for his walk. She did REALLY well but was so tired when we got back. I guess it was a lot to see!

Sorry I messed up my post
Phew it's been so busy here, I want to share some of their antics and how Lily is learning, but I hardly get a chance at all! I know those who have brought a new puppy home all agree how difficult it is to get a moment to yourself. But totally worth it right?

Ok, Lily is getting so big so fast! In the 1st week she had gained 1 pound so she was a whopping 5 lbs on Friday and I haven't weighed her since then but she is feeling bigger/ heavier/stronger everyday, almost like I can see her growing in one day.

Her nickname is Monkey. Monkey see monkey do! I tried to block access to the hallway so I could keep a better eye on Lily for house training purposes. So I used pillows and jammed them across the hallway entrance. My husband was holding Lily in his arms watching the whole thing. Then I showed Ozzy he could just jump over the pillows by doing his 'over' cue both ways. Lily was watching closely to the whole thing. My husband put her down and what was the 1st thing she did? Yep, over the pillows she crawled....🙄 lol! That was a while ago, last week sometime because I'm laughing looking back thinking the pillows would hold her back 🤣 She is climbing every thing she can and wants to do every thing Ozzy does!

Well that's it for my time to myself lol, I'll leave you with a video of them playing downstairs

Well the two little donkeys are getting along really well I'd say. I left one leaf pile at the back for them because they love to jump and roll in the leaves like a couple of toddlers and it cracks me up so much every time.

I made a little video of playtime at the schnauzahouse.

I knew (or at least really hoping) they would play together because for a 2YO, Ozzy just loves to play all the time. He was like that from a little puppy on. Not so much a cuddler although he loves to roll around and wrestle where I sneak in hugs and kisses haha.

Lily on the other hand is a complete opposite in personality. She does love to play as all puppies do, but she is the biggest cuddlebug and loves to give kisses.

She has no problem with strangers or visitors to the house which I think might be helping Ozzy to relax a bit. It's like since people go to pet Lily and give her attention he's like "wait, I can do that". I have noticed Ozzy is a bit more cuddly and wants to say hi to strangers more readily now. He was able to calm down with the contractor that came to house yesterday which is a great improvement.

Overall this has been a great move to add a second dog which we always planned to anyway from the start.

Goodness, it looks like they are having such a blast!! So fun to watch them play!!
It really is fascinating, and heartwarming, to see them just 'be dogs', get along and have themselves a ton of fun!

This goes on 75% of the time lol. So much I figure I should to keep walks to a minimum for Lily while she is growing. Lily got her 2nd round of shots last night so the vet said she can go for a walk around the neighborhood so I'll be training to walk on a leash maybe today.

Also we think she has worms 😖. Wish I recognized the bloating, I thought it was just puppy pudge but she is not pudgy at all, just bloated. I also feel she is very tiny and hope her growth catches up a bit. The vet gave a dewormer which I'll give her tonight.

Wow I have so much to share but always forget when I go to update lol. I started a memo for the two but forgot to update that too haha!

Lily is doing so well! She is really growing now that her worms are all gone and growing so much mentally too! So far she has learned sit, down, spin, touch and high 5 and is solid with all. She learns so quickly, as Ozzy did, but I do think watching Ozzy do his cues helps her understand better what to do because it's really amazing!

She has been going for little walks for the last 3 weeks or so. She found her voice and likes to bark at people and dogs she sees which usually makes people smile or laugh because she still has a raspy puppy voice, but I'm working hard on stopping that obviously. She did really well today with not barking at people when I'm using treats to counter her response. I have to see the person ahead of her and start with treats the moment she sees the person. I place a treat on the ground and then another a bit farther to encourage her to keep walking. It works! And she still gets smiles and laughs because she is so darn cute! Who doesn't love a puppy learning to behave themselves?

I notice she is a bit afraid of other dogs, especially large ones. Not that she gets to 'see' other dogs yet (aside from the ones that are Ozzy's friends) but one of my neighbors got a black german shepherd puppy who is probably about 6-9 months old and already a big boy with a big bark. He likes to bark at Ozzy and Lily when we are near the fence line. Ozzy will go right up to him (sometimes he barks back but not often), but Lily has never once went up the fence. Instead she runs to me! It's the cutest thing and makes my heart feel warm because she sees me as her safe place already ❤.

Today was her 1st trip to the pet store on lead (not in the carrier) and she did so well! At one point it seemed she was a bit scared in an area an employee was restocking because she wanted me to pick her up, so I did and she was fine. I put her back down to meet one of the employees we know that loves Ozzy and she was fine to meet a new person, then to walk out the store like a big girl.

Ozzy is being such a good sport, the two are two peas in a pod, they love eachother, share chews (because even if they both have the same thing, of course they always want what the other has) and play together all the time.

So proud of my Monkey and Donkey 😂

Btw she is growing but still pretty tiny. I wonder how big she will grow to be or if the worms DID stunt her growth for sure 🤔. She is currently exactly 10lbs.

It is very likely she will catch up to where she should be weight/size wise.
Generally speaking female dogs tend to be a bit smaller than males.

Good to hear things are going so well!
One is wonderful but two is a so much more fun!!

Thanks! I'm not too concerned, she will be the size she is, just was curious if worms do in fact stunt growth, but I do agree they probably catch up just fine.

It was a bit stressful at 1st, but definitely so happy to have the two of them around! And I do really enjoy the puppy stage, them learning and all that.

They can stunt growth and/or cause other health issues due to nutrient deficiency, if left untreated.

I fostered some very wormy puppies for a while, but once they were properly dewormed, even the smallest one was able to catch up in size to the others in the litter.
