Hello from Canada, my name is Kat. It was a bit of a surprise so soon.....but....Ozzy came home Friday night!!!! He is a black and silver miniature schnauzer 😊

He will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. He is so sweet and wonderful, he has definitely stolen our hearts in these 4 days!

We are seasoned dog owners, but haven't had a pup in 15 years! But it's like Ozzy has been with us much longer, he is so comfortable and made himself at home almost right away. He is much braver everyday, and finally I think I see his true personality, so sweet, playful, loves his food and sleeps well. What else could we ask for?

I admit, it's really hard to get pics when he's awake lol, so I don't have any great pics, but took a few vids.

And here he is Day 2

I have some reading to do, but I hope to learn and meet some of you and your pups!

Ozzy looks like he is having a ton of fun!!
It is so fascinating and fun to watch them play like that!

Something like this might be what you are looking for.

I agree! I love how it is exactly like he treats a mouse if he catches one. I noticed he was intrigued the way it squeaked back after he released it when the toy was refilling with air. It was a higher pitch squeak when inflating and he almost did the head tilt like "how is it still squeaking?" 🤣 It almost sounded like a protest from a prey animal. Definitely engaged that prey drive and that type of squeak is intriguing and makes him want to attack it again haha!

Awww those chipmunks are too cute! They won't have the same effect as those bouncy egg shaped latex toys, but I might have to splurge and get those too! He has this fabric cube with sides like tissue boxes and 4 stuffed balls with a squeaker. But the squeakers are long disengaged 😅 He loves to uncover little toys hidden under a blanket, I'm sure he'd love the little chipmunks lol.

I never had much luck with any toys with squeakers in them with my past dogs- they just don't make the squeakers durable/strong enough. Even the supposedly 'indestructible' ones got destroyed rather quickly but they sure had fun doing it.

I love re-reading these threads, sometimes I don't even remember what it was like dealing with my fearful under socialized pup. So I was trying to keep record of events and observations over time to look back on.

Today I confirmed, he watches for shadows of birds flying to locate them. Sees the shadow and looks up. Same with shadows of squirels near trees. I think that's so smart!

Ahhhhhh the little things! So I've been training him to walk with me on a long line in park settings where I have enough room. I basically keep walking at a regular speed, he runs ahead, lags behind to sniff and quickly catches up to me before the line tightens. This allows him to run ahead a bit and gives him time to sniff if he wants to while I keep a constant walk and keeping my eye on him always.

We are learning line awareness so he doesn't get tangled around a sign post or tree for ex. The other day there was a another dog being walked in the small park on the other side. Ozzy never got to go meet the other dog, but he saw him leave the park nonetheless. Then he got himself wrapped around a sign post. I tried to talk him through getting untangled, but he wasn't getting it and he ended up backing up and getting out his harness. Up the cul-de-sac street he went trotting in the direction of the other dog hoping to meet up with it. He wasn't bolting running, just more trotting away happily. I knew he'd eventually look back to me to see if I follow, instead I said "ok bye", waved and walked the other direction. He came running to me ears back little legs moving as fast they can! There is something magical about that moment your dog chooses you! Over whatever said stimulus 😊.

Great! I love reading your posts about Cache and Oakley as well!

Btw, my parents busted out their old dog toys when Ozzy was visiting, they have the chipmunks! So that's a toy for Ozzy when he visits my parents 😊

Ok I have to annouce it!!! We are getting a puppy!!!!!!!!!!!! I found out yesterday.

I have been in contact with his breeder since we got Ozzy because we have been wanting 2 dogs and probably realistically optimistic for the last year since Ozzy turned 1YO. Last time we had two dogs was 11 years ago, so needless to say we are just on cloud 9 with this!!

She is a pure black mini schnauzer, different parents than Ozzy. She was born on the 12th of August, so she's 2 years and 2 weeks younger than Ozzy. She is getting her 1st round of shots on Oct 6th, so the breeder told us we can pick her up anytime after that. I think Ozzy is finally pretty well rounded with his social issues (pandemic pup) and he will make an awesome big bro!

I will post pics as soon as I have some. I can't wait to bring home a friend for Ozzy. I'm going into this (for Ozzy's sake) as this is a friend for Ozzy and he's gonna help me take care of the little pup. What I mean is I plan to involve him as much as possible.

I know i'll have some questions soon, for now i'm trying to organize her play pen area, how I will feed them and train her while keeping Ozzy busy.

If anyone has any pointers bringing home a new pup with an existing pup, i'm all ears!

Awwwwwww thanks 😊 We are VERY excited and happy!!!!

I know huh? Yep 2YO on July 30th. He's finally acting more grown up lol. Still a silly donkey and LOVES to play and jump, but it's nice to see his big boy personality.

Oh definitely! It hasn't been THAT long since Ozzy was a pup, I fully remember what that was like. The only thing holding me together was the thought that this wouldn't be forever! I'm a bit spoiled now since Ozzy is so 'easy', he knows the routine and fits in well (of course). But I remember how he knew absolutely NOTHING at first, not even having been outside yet when we brought him home!

Thanks! Can't stop looking at her pic lol. Good question! I forgot to mention we think her name will be Lily.

I know a lot of people are overwhelmed or don't enjoy puppies, and I'm not saying I won't be overwhelmed, but I just LOVE puppies 😍
