Happy First Birthday Ozzy!
How wonderful, I am excited for you too, it super exciting anticipating the addition of a new family member!!
I am sure Ozzy is going to make a wonderful big brother, and will do an amazing job of assisting you in helping the little one to learn the 'ropes'!!

You have built a wonderful connection with him. I think they like it when we talk to them, let them know 'what's up', they understand more than they often get credit for.

Good job Ozzy!
We don't often think of our dogs as hunters, for some dogs the instinct is stronger than others, but it is truly fascinating to watch them do it.

I'm surprised at Ozzy's natural instincts, like being wary of strangers and new things as a little pup and now this. Much more so than my previous two.
I think the more we learn about dogs and their instincts and behaviors, the better we get at noticing and appreciating natural dog behaviors -- it is truly fascinating. I was amazed one day, watching Cache hunt like a fox hunting a mouse (he was actually 'hunting' a squeaky toy I had hidden under a blanket)- watch, listen, pause, pounce with both front paws, dig for it, (if necessary) - could tell he was truly enjoying the 'hunt' - following his instincts!

Pretty cool, right? They notice the smallest of changes, things we don't even think would matter, but even small changes can make a big difference for them.
It is something to keep in mind when proofing cues, the 'sit' cue when you are facing them, is not the same thing as 'sit' when they are beside you or you have your back turned to them, (until they have the opportunity to learn it is the same thing).

I never had much luck with any toys with squeakers in them with my past dogs- they just don't make the squeakers durable/strong enough. Even the supposedly 'indestructible' ones got destroyed rather quickly but they sure had fun doing it.

Btw she is growing but still pretty tiny. I wonder how big she will grow to be or if the worms DID stunt her growth for sure 🤔. She is currently exactly 10lbs.
It is very likely she will catch up to where she should be weight/size wise.
Generally speaking female dogs tend to be a bit smaller than males.

Good to hear things are going so well!
One is wonderful but two is a so much more fun!!

They can stunt growth and/or cause other health issues due to nutrient deficiency, if left untreated.

I fostered some very wormy puppies for a while, but once they were properly dewormed, even the smallest one was able to catch up in size to the others in the litter.
