You could just put the soiled puppy pad outside, where you'd like him to toilet. The smell and feel of the pad should make him think that's where he'd toileted before. Than, over time, make the pad smaller and smaller until he gets the message. Rewarding him every time he toilets in the right place also gets the message through.

Regarding the trembling and looking disoriented - how long has he been doing it? Since you took him outside to potty train him? Have you been taking him out to socialise him since you got him, carrying him about in your arms before he was protected by his shots? The consistency of stools can be effected by fear or the shots, he had recently.

I would be careful with the puppy class. Your puppy seems nervous, therefore gentle exposure is needed. Hopefully, the puppy class will not be one where puppies are let off leash to run a riot. That kind of situation teaches bold puppies to become bolshy, and shy, nervous puppies that other puppies are not nice to be around.

The class should be nicely structured, puppies should learning simple things like focus on owner, sit etc, whilst on leash and at a comfortable distance form other puppies. Otherwise I would consider going elsewhere. Psychological damage that nervous puppies can sustain by being overawed by uncontrolled, unruly puppies, can take a long time to reverse. Gentle, under control introduction to other gentle puppies is good, and necessary.

Also the methods used would be very important to me. Knowledgeable trainer, only using positive reinforcements (= rewards, and NO punishment), no forcing the puppy into situations that he doesn't want to be in. No choke chains or prong collars, no shouting, no hitting, no suggestion of shock collars or I'd run a mile.

Hope your class is what you need for your little guy to become a confident dog.

Yes, by taking him to the designated area and waiting until he goes, then rewarding generously.

But a word of caution - don't overdo it otherwise your dog might become unwilling to relieve himself elsewhere. Which wouldn't be good if you had to take him away from home and the familiar areas.
