I bought a 8 week old male Groodle on the 19th October. I am curious about some of his behaviors over the last couple of days.
1. He seems to be toilet trained and indicates he needs to go out and has not at any stage made a mess inside - I might be jyst lucky but find this unexpected.
2. At sleep inside for the last two night he keeps going outside and so night I will let him sleep in the safety of the yard. Is it normal to prefer to be outside rather than inside at night?
3. He doesn't make sound, except to go out to toilet.
4. He has eaten well for the first couple of days but is iff his food today.

Should I be worried by any if this or am I just over cautious and just have a mellow dog?

All advice appreciated.

It's perfectly normal for a puppy not to eat well for the first few days. Transferring to a new home is very stressful. He'll probably sleep a lot for the first few days, too. That being said, do NOT let him sleep in the yard. It is NOT safe, anything could happen, especially to a little 8 week old puppy. Try crate training.

Off topic, but what in the world is a "Groodle"?

It's another word for a golden retriever/ poodle mix.

It looks like it's another name for a Golden x Poodle mix...though first guess for me was greyhound poodle...

Re: OP

8 weeks is too young to be outside all night. Your puppy is small and has just been taken from its mom and littermates. I'd never leave my boy (2 years) outside all night anyway. If he needs to get up 5 times during the night to prevent accidents, get up 5 times during the night and let him out each time.

He's still young and in a new home. He may change in preferences, may change in noise level, etc.

It's great that he's telling you he wants out! Just keep reinforcing that with him :)

I also wouldn't let an 8 week old puppy sleep outside. Specialty at this time of year. At least where I live, it consistently gets below freezing, and my dogs would even be cold.

Everything else is normal. All my puppies have gone off their food for a few days at the beginning. Don't fret.

My first guess was a Groendale/Poodle (maybe I'll google a groodle :D)

Eta- After a quick google, it seems to be a Golden Retriever/Poodle...like Quest said!

Please forgive me if I'm confused, but what if a Groodle is a poodle \ Golden Retriever mix what then is a goldendoodle?
The same. Crazy designer breeds.

Glad to see I"m not the only one getting confused. Just googled them and seems Groodles and Goldendoodles are the same thing. Guess Goldendoodle became too long so they found a shorter name for them.

Everyone has already said what I would say....
Congrats on the new puppy OP! What is his name...?? :) Pictures?

Oh, but don't start me on the "oodles".
The amount of people that approach me with some form of "Oodle" & ask if their dog can meet Hugo...their "cousin". lol

Hi and Welcome. :) I'll just answer within your quote to simplify things. :) Perhaps you could answer everyone's curiosity of what a "Groodle" is? ;)

I bought a 8 week old male Groodle on the 19th October. I am curious about some of his behaviors over the last couple of days.

1. He seems to be toilet trained and indicates he needs to go out and has not at any stage made a mess inside - I might be jyst lucky but find this unexpected.

Well this must have been a pleasant surprise! However, I wouldn't count on him being house trained--in other words, don't let the active supervision slide. And continue to take him outside at intervals and praise him (or give him treats or a toy--whatever he likes) when he does his business out there. Here's the house training how-to: http://www.dogforum.com/housebreaking-puppies/house-training-how-tos-2135/ Just in case this behavior doesn't last. ;)

2. At sleep inside for the last two night he keeps going outside and so night I will let him sleep in the safety of the yard. Is it normal to prefer to be outside rather than inside at night?

Ditto everyone else... I won't answer to normal because it really just isn't safe for him to be out there unsupervised (day or night). Plus, it won't help with bonding or training if he spends a lot of time out on his own. Maybe he just feels more comfortable outside than inside, esp. if that's how he/his litter were raised? If that's the case, make sure he has a safe, quiet place inside (like an open crate), a dog bed, and some chews/kongs to gnaw on while he's in his comfy place....

3. He doesn't make sound, except to go out to toilet.

Again, this could just be him settling in. Not all puppies are vocal, but most are active. Does he play? Has he been exploring? How is he interacting with the family? (Does he initiate contact, seem comfortable, etc?)

4. He has eaten well for the first couple of days but is iff his food today.

If he is acting, eliminating, and drinking normally, I would keep an eye on this. If he has any diarrhea or seems lethargic (not just mellow), it's time to go to the vet. Actually, have you taken him to a vet since you brought him home? Usually it is recommended that they be checked within 3 days.

Should I be worried by any if this or am I just over cautious and just have a mellow dog?

All advice appreciated.
Good luck! If you click around the forum, you'll find posts at the tops of the sections labeled "sticky"--these are great little training/behavior concept introductions that are very helpful!

If he is suddenly off his feed, he may be ill.

Being "mellow" may actually not be a good thing... in that he may not be feeling well. Healthy puppies are usually getting into things constantly.

Has he had a vet check up yet since you got him?
Did he have any vaccine certificates from the breeder?

Thanks for the comments

Thanks for the feedback. A Groodle and GoldenDoodle are the same and are mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle.

His is in a suburban backyard in Brisbane where temperatures at the moment range between 64.4F - 91.4F.

He is safe from any other animals but you have confirmed my thoughts about keeping him inside.

Much appreciated

I live in the suburbs of Brisbane, but my dogs have always been inside dogs, especially at night...

Gorgeous puppy...

Gorgeous Groodle Puppy! Where did you get him from?

What a Gorgeous Groodle Puppy! Where did you get him from? Our family is after one just like him - temperament, looks and all! Would you mind telling all where you purchased him from? Private or Breeder? Any contact details would be great!
Regarding your concerns ... all the advice given is spot on. Some pups take a few days to adjust, they are going through separation too!

My advice to add on would be ... make sure you spend lots of quality time with him, lots of love and cuddles (to compensate for missing his family). Find out what food he was eating before you got him (sometimes a change in food can upset their tummy). If he wants to go out a lot at night, try making his last meal at around 6pm, let him stay outside for about 1 hour (so he can go toilet), then bring him inside to sleep (pups need tonnes of sleep, like most babies do). Make sure you take him out for a toilet trip before you go to bed. Then leave a puppy toilet mat or tray in his room (in case he can't wait till morning). He'll soon learn to hold on, but remember, he is still a puppy.

Best of luck with this gorgeous groodle boy! Please, please let me know where you found him! Thanks.;)
