Symptoms :

Intermittent diarrhea
Occasional vomiting
Random shaking (as if he is cold)
Weight loss (down 13lbs)
Eye drainage
Excessive swallowing as if he has too much saliva in his mouth
Lethargy (I am guessing from the weight loss at this point)

Background:

Hoover is a miniature shar pei. He will be 4 in May. Up until about 2.5 years he was a hearty eater (he scarfed down his food). he has always been sensitive to dog treats, so we would rarely give him any, just the dry dog food. Out of the blue he started leaving his food alone. He would take a couple nibbles and then walk away. I figured dogs go through times like this so I didn't think much of it. we dealt with his pickiness for a couple months, then tried a food change by just adding in some wet food.. He seemed to really enjoy that! For 3 months he was doing great (even getting a little overweight if you ask me)... Then He stopped eating again around November of this year. I tried switching up his food... Adding things, totally changing the dry food multiple times, and he would show interest for a day of so, then wouldn't touch it again. Then he started randomly vomiting and/or having diarrhea. He was thinning out, but still had his energy. We took him to the vet who gave us anti vomiting meds and antibiotics. He has been getting pickier and pickier, and now has gotten to refusing to eat any dog food. I am feeding him anything at this point: scraps of my food, dog biscuits, ANYTHING, but he is now loosing weight and getting lethargic and has all the above listed symptoms. We had a blood test and fecal analysis done and all that showed up were low protein levels. He is now on prednisone , it has been two days and he still seems miserable. Anyone know what this could BE???
