I'm not new to dogs, but... This is the first time I've lived with one--my SO is a dog person and was willing to search for one who wouldn't trigger my weird dog phobia. Excited-friendly dogs aren't supposed to be terrifying. :(

The end result is that I'm getting to deal with Oakley, a slightly over 2-year-old puggle rescued while pregnant from a puppy mill. She's usually calm...when one of us is around where she can see and she's not in a moving car. She also came housebroken (to our admitted surprise) but that's pretty much it. It was very lucky that my current job lets me work from home, because despite what the shelter said about her having trouble attaching to people she also has separation anxiety.

I'm really hopeful for any advice I can get on how to handle this--I do need to be able to leave her alone, since I'm going to have to be able to leave her alone and she freaks out even if I'm just walking down to the dumpster without her.
