Well Bailey is proving to be VERY SMART!. lol. well I already knew that but that's beside the point!. and we are enjoying him. (yes hubby too!) but Bailey is TO smart!.

I had to go buy him a new harness!!. the one I bought in place of the collar that was to big, well He kept getting out of the first harness. he managed to figure out if he ran fast enough. and got to the end of his 30 foot Line he could get the buckle to break away and he could then squirm out of the harness. my poor mom had just bout had a heart attack when she look outside n he was not on his harness!. she opend the door quickly n he was just thankfuly layin in the sun. and she told him to come here and he ran rite in. for her. then he did it again the next day. so we went and got a harness that you put the front legs in then it snaps up on the back and has 2 D rings to hook the leash or tie out to. and he managed to get out of that. too. so I tighten it so if the clasp un hooks again he can't manage to wiggle out.

he also knows if he rolls around enough he can sometimes get the clasp to unhook from the D rings!!! I may just duct tape it lol. and keep it permantly hooked to the lead then use the old harness for walks LOL!

so any suggestons on a harness to use. untile we are able to fence our yard. would be awsome

No harness is safe for tie out, and most of them say so on the tag when you buy it.

For walking I would choose an Easy Walk or the Halti equivalent which I think I actually prefer as it clips to the collar as well.

then what do you suggest for a tie out? as I do not have a fenced yard and he needs a safe place to play when He's outside for a few hours, we wont be able to fence in our yard till possibly the first of the year.

You could fence a smaller section, or even use x-pens to build a little area for him. Other than that tie outs are made to be used with a flat nylon or leather buckle collar.

I know you're in a completely different area then we are, but it's illegal here to tie out your dog. I would suggest if you're going to tie it out you use something like a harness, so the dog doesn't choke itself, but I would never leave a dog tied out unattended.

Im in ga. and there is a leash law.. if your dog is not in a fenced yard it has to be tied up somehow.
where we have him tied it's a safe area. I've made sure he can't tangle on anything. and he's not Unattend the hole time he's out.. with 5 kids. .someone is always looking out at him. and hes not out there the entire time, hes out a few hours. comes in. then gose out again later for a hour or 2. then bck in..

I' have thought about fencing a small part but Hubby rather spend less money n just do the entire yard instead of doing a small section. then having to go bakc and do the rest later,.

A harness and tie-outs don't mix well, and is a bigger choking hazard if something were to break... ya know?

Have you thought of buying a kennel? They all vary with price, the one we have (variation of the one in the 3rd pic) cost about 450$ and survived 4 winters and still stands (kinda, a little bent). However just make sure that he has some shade - a little dog house would be perfcet- you made one if I'm correct? and maybe a bucket for water that you can tie to the cage so it doesn't get knocked/fall over.

I think harnesses tend to cause the dog to get tangled up more often. Invest in a decent flat collar and make sure he understands tie outs. First time I tied out my dog, he decided to take off full bore after a neighbors cat and hit the end hard. He wasn't hurt thankfully, but took him some time to feel safe moving around while tied up.

Hubby wont pay that much for a kennel. esp since it will only cost us a little over that for fencing the entire yard. we can get chainlink fence.. for 50 dollars a roll. and tht will cover 50 feet.. and we already figured we will only spend mabey 600 dollars and that will cover the posts, rolls of fence n clips, to do the entire yard space we plan to fence. so hubby wont pay a extra 400 for a kennel. esp if he can just spend a extr 50 on 50 more feet of fencing and use that to warden off a section just for him., We have the big Igloo dog house.. we got it free last week from a nice lady we met in petsmart!!!. I have been searchin Craiglist for someone selling their pen but 100 is my max for used. and it would be temp as We just intend on most likely leting him run the entire back yard.. if not then we are gonna get a extra 50 foot roll of Chainlink n make him a area ourselfs to run in..

I bought Cording.. Kinda hard to explain. it's sorta like this Dog Trolley, Dog Tie Outs Cable Leash, Pet Supplies it's the red cord pictured. we had Chain but it got tangled so I took it back and bought that red cord pictured.

and he has 30 feet worth of it to run.. a little more than half of our front yard. there is about 40 more feet till you reach the road that he cant get to.. and we have it attached to the porch at the very bottom step. and everthing is blocked that he could get wrapped around. and he didnt get hurt any of the times he's decided to run to the end of the 30 feet..

I just need this for a temp solution till we get our fence in. we plan on getting all the posts. and post hold digger next month. and get them in. then after that. start buying the Chainlink 2 rolls each month till we have it done. so the tie out is not perm. it's only going to be used while we waite for our fence...

There are less expensive types of fencing. Chain link can be pricey. I just fenced my new yard with welded wire fencing which was $30 for a 50ft roll and t-posts at $4 a piece. Borrowed a t-post driver and wire cutters, and voilà.

lol yea way before bailey came, we priced fencing for the yard for the kiddies.. and a roll of chain link is 50 and you get 50 feet. then I think the poles were under 20 dollars each.. so in all it wont be very expensive. if we do the ENTIRE yard mabey 800. but if we just do what we have mowed and cleard up then much less

Ditto cali!

There are cheaper options for fencing. Check out stores to see what deals you can find. If you look for sales and are a bit creative, you might be able to put up a fence sooner.

Just to give you an idea for another option...

We used the welded wire like Cali, but instead of the t-posts we used round posts ($6 each IIRC). We used zip ties to attach the wire to the posts, though you could use a staple gun. The posts across the top aren't really necessary, so you could cut costs there.;)

Yea if it were me doing this and in control of the "fence project" then I'd go for the cheepest i can get my hands on. (good old barb wire would keep my kids away an in the yard LOL LOL LOL) but This is Hubby's project and I"m not getting much say in it. The Turtle pond I'm digging by hand is My thing. and He said the fence is his. he wont get in my way if i don't get in his LOL!. and now that I finaly have a dog. I realy have no say LOL LOL LOL!!!. but I will bring that up to him. as I know he's all bout saving money.

I"m still going to search C'list for a cheep pen tht someone is selling.. that can hold us over till we do our yard. THen i'd have a 2nd pen on hand for the future incase I can ever convince DH to let me get a husky to be friends with Bailey :).
