Hello there! I'm from the Chicago suburbs, and I'm new here, but by no means new to the world of dogs. My mom lives with me, and collectively we have two pooches and four kitties. We adopted both dogs from a rescue organization in the city. Sugar was adopted in July of last year, and Honey in November.
A little background on me - for two years before adopting Sugar, we went without any dogs. We'd lost our last dog, Brandy the Beagle, in August of 2013. She was almost 20 years old. That was the first time in my life we had no dogs. Mom just wasn't ready to get another one yet, but then last year, she decided it was time. Between my birth and 2013 though, we probably had well over 30 dogs. My sister used to show and breed dogs, so that accounted for many of them when I was very little. The ones from my late teens and adult years though were all rescues. Most of the ones prior to last year were rescues literally from the street, or ones that people decided they couldn't have / didn't want (this was when we still lived in the city).
I'm actually more the cat person of the family, but that doesn't mean I don't love my dogs just as much. It just means I'm much more versed in the needs of cats in terms of things like health and nutrition. I'm hoping to supplement that by checking out the forum here.
