Chili is 5 months old now (11 lbs Maltipoo) and slept in his crate since 8 weeks and has always held it from 10pm-630am from 10 weeks on. We still restrict water after 8pm and take him out one last time at 10pm, we've been getting him out of the crate when we get up around 630am but he's really hard to get out, he just lays there and normally I have to physically get him out, wait 5 min so he comes out on his own (then rolls around on the floor) or offer a treat. We go right out and he will pee and maybe poop right away.
So my question is on the weekends should I just wait for him to ask to go out or continue what were doing? I'd like to sleep in alittle later (730?) but feel like he should have to go but now I'm second guessing myself since he doesn't seem ready to come out of his crate. Thoughts?

he'd just snooze through half of the day.
That's why we've got relatively strict times and go every morning around the same time with him, regardless of which weekday it is.

but generally it depends on what you prefer... I don't think one method is better than the other. Your dog will probably get used it either way.

I'd give it a try and let him sleep in a bit. Does he signal you pretty well that he wants out and is he close enough for you to hear? Mo was/is the king of sleep ins and started it pretty early, before he was uncrated at night he would whine just loudly enough for me to hear. Afterwards he would get really close to my face and whine a little bit to wake me up.

My pup is the same way- she looooves to snooze. On the weekdays, because we need to get to work, we kind of have to hustle her out of her kennel and outside to pee and walk.

We've found that on the weekends, we let her out of the kennel when we hear her stirring, outside to pee and poop, and then can often bring her back inside to a mat in our bedroom and she will sleep another hour or so until someone gets up.

I'd trust your dog to signal you when they need to go out in the morning. If dog is sleeping, and you want to sleep, let it sleep!
