He's a cutie. My dog does the same thing and she's a GSD/Basenji and she's 10yo these days. She will walk if she's board or just wandering for a snack (I free feed) but going out? hearing a visitor? WOAH NELLIE. She acts like a puppy. I do worry about her injuring herself on the slippery pergo, so I have a couple of runner-type rugs so when she is on the fast-track mode she dosn't go base over apex and skid into the sliding door. My hubby and I mostly just laugh because the pergo in the dining room she NEVER has trouble with. She's not slipped once....but the pergo leading out to the backyard slider--you would think it's made of ice.
Things we've done to help--trim the fur between her toes, trim her nails down and keep the quick as back as possible, use paw "wax" to keep her toes moisturized and give her a better feel of the ground.
