So I've been doing some research to try and get to know my current foster dog's breed better. But the only information I get about German Spitz is about how other breeds (pomeranian, american eskimo, etc) have been bred from it. I'm 100% sure Major Tom is a purebred German Spitz. Because he's no chow, and he is 40lbs and extremely underweight.. his estimated weight (healthy) is at about 60 to 70 lbs easily.. Does anyone know more about this breed characteristics, known health problems, genetic issues, etc?

Here's a size comparison of him next to a football sized toy football.

German spitz can be claased into 3 different sizes, toy medium and giant. Not even the giant gets to a range of 60-70lbs, their average weight is 35-40 pounds, and the giant one only comes in solid black, brown or white. The samller ones can be the colour of your dog, but are very much lighter then your dog weighing in at around 15-20lbs. from what I see, I would guess him to be a Pomeranian/American eskimo mix.
