Hello! I have a rescued pure bred German Shepherd. Beau is a 5 year old adult male with no other health problems. I have already established his allergies to gluten, so he is on a grain free dog diet. We walk about 2 miles a day. For about 2 years Beau has had seemingly constant ear problems. It started with a few ear infections here and there with trips to the vet to get antibiotics. But, then the vet stopped noticing any obvious issues in Beau's ears despite the fact that he was continually shaking his head and scratching his ears. I suspected that the problem was a yeast infection too deep for the vet to find, since Beau has had systemic yeast problems before. I tried vinegar solutions, monostat and most recently the genetian violet and boric acid concoction(still using this) with little to no help. Beau takes 50 mg of benedryl twice a day and that seems to help alleviate symptoms. Going in the rain seems to make the shaking a lot worse for 2-3 days if i dont intervene. There is no foul smell coming from his ears, no obvious decrease in his ability to hear. Beau does a lot more head shaking than tilting, which leads me to assume that his ears are more itchy than painful. Anybody have any similar experiences? any advice? Thanks!
