He could be both roach-backed and "weak" in the pasterns--both of which have genetic and nutritional components. So while good nutrition might lessen it, it very well may not. Or maybe hip dysplasia and the other two. Like @JoanneF said, I'd recommend looking at pet insurance, at least for the beginning. I know of at least 1 where you don't have to wait 6 months for ortho issues.
