hi dogforum community
my dog who is a terrier mix has recently been experiencing hair loss at her elbows. she never had fur there originally, or not a lot of it, but recently, her bare patches seem to have become more prominent.. and on one side, there are brown dots.. attaching some pictures, hopefully you guys can shed some light on this matter, thanks for your time!

Does she lay on the floor a lot? I had a rescue with no fur/calluses on his elbows because he presumably had been sleeping on hard surfaces his prior life. Getting her a thick bed or allowing her on the couch should allow the fur to regrow as long as it doesn't callus over.

Are they tender or itchy at all? They do look like the start of callus to me too, Apollo has them on both elbows. I use a little lanolin on them to keep them soft and now as his winter coat is coming in the fur is covering them again.

My dog has these red scally looking patches on both elbows - my vets said they are nothing to worry about and are just from Lying on the floor (although he sleeps on the rug/ his bed which has lots of padding or the couch) they don't cause him any bother - he let ever has any trouble with them and he let's me touch them etc so I don't think they are anything to worry about
