We are fostering a dog, have had him for about 3 weeks and the last few nights he's started barking from the living room when we go to bed. It's been really affecting our sleep.
I don't know what to do because all my research says to wait for him to stop barking then reward him, but he stops barking immediately when we enter the living room and then doesn't bark again. So I feel there's no way to give him positive reinforcement to stop barking because by the time we get in the room he's been rewarded for his barking with our attention.
We're only fostering him for a few more weeks while the shelter he's from is renovating, so getting a trainer seems impractical. Any tips for us?
