Hello!

I might be getting a small dog soon. This would be my family's first dog. We would have a small-medium sized garden, the time the dog would be alone would vary. It would be able to get around a 1/2 hour walk in the morning around 7am or maybe even 6am. Most days an walk midday. Then an afternoon walk and evening walk. A lot of time would be spent on proper scializing and training. The dog would idealy be good for young kids or dog-phobiatic(??? ) people. Little shedding would appreciated and low maintenantce is a must.

Also in the future I want to start getting large dogs. I would have much more time. What breeds could give expirence in large dogs. NOT Labradors or any Retrivers.

Do ask questions if they would help with the answer.

Beagle, but I always say beagle. They are sturdy, fun loving, great family dogs, and they keep themselves busy for hours when in a yard. They are a bit noisy at times and can let their noses get them into trouble, but I will always have one in my family.

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, if you can find a healthy one.

Why aren't you interested in retrievers of any kind? I'd say a Lab would be a great first time dog, not small but not large either (opinions vary, but I don't think Labs are big dogs; imo, big dogs are 65+ centimeters. That's 26+ inches.) And they're generally friendly and happy dogs, willing to please the owner, trainable, yadayada. Good first time dog, imo.

Hmmm...that's kind of tough. Little to no shedding most of the time means a dog that will have to be groomed. Umm..I always recommend a mini schnauzer (that's just because I have one) they have great personalities, fun loving, small but sturdy dog, and they are fine with being left alone. They do have to be groomed though and I don't know if that's a deal breaker for you.

I have a BC/Aussie mix with a 7 pound mini, and a pug. So anything is possible as far as big dogs go if your willing to spend the training time.
