We have all been told not to mix the two but I ran into this very interesting article BTW...I DO feed raw and kibble with no problem!
Google this!
'DIGEST THIS: Kibble May Actually Digest Faster Than Raw '........... The Raw Feeding Community
I would link it but I can't!!!!

Some dogs do just fine with both, some don't. I have read that artical before, and all it is is a "raw bashing" type deal. It isn't any sort of "respectable" (for lack of better words) site.

I personally will never believe it myself. I just can't see how man made, processed, overcooked synthetic, artificial ingredients in nugget form out of a bag is easier on the system than whole, fresh species appropriate food is. Not just for dogs, but for cats, horses and people as well.

The findings don't surprise me, cooked proteins are more easily broken down by humans. Because the area this happens is the stomach it's reasonable to extrapolate to dogs due to similar anatomy/physiology.

This study makes me super uncomfortable, one dog does not make for generalizable results and I question the ethics of exposing him to that amount of radiation on a whim. Why not use the scientific studies that surely already exist in this area? Any research should go through a rigorous ethics process where it is demonstrated that the research is neccesary and that the animals will not be unduly harmed. I.e. Exposed to large amounts of radiation and not monitored for future issues.

I'm not sure how the author reached the conclusions they did from this study. Time of digestion doesn't tell us what actually gets absorbed when and doesn't give enough information to say one diet is better than another or how best to transition diets.

Please note: I'd be just as critical of a paper using these results to suggest kibble over raw.

Hmmmm I didn't take it as a "raw bashing" article at all! Of course you are right about natural diets, but many do not have the ability or funds to feed an all raw diet and can only do their best, even if it means supplementing with a high quality kibble!
Nutritionally, at least 'some' raw is better than none and I personally like giving my dog a varied diet of raw, kibble, home cooked and dehydrated! No matter where we are, I will never run into having the problem of not having 'her' food available as she can and does eat all forms of dog food!;)
