Hi
My cockerpoo pup (5 months), was on Burgess complete food which said to give around 260g per day, (he never ate this) I have since change to Evolution naturally which has the following composition, so I believe healthier

Composition: Chilled Chicken (26%), Poultry Meal (24%), Pea (22%), Sweet Potato Flour (15%), Turkey Meal (10%), Fish Meal (10%) Poultry Fat, Chicken Gravy, Carrot Powder (2%), Apple Powder (2%), Seaweed meal (1.5%), Minerals (includes Kelp 250mg/kg, Yucca Extract 200mg/kg, Marigold Meal 50mg/kg, Rosemary Extract 5mg/kg), Botanical Herbs (0.5%) (includes rosehip, liquorice root, peppermint, devils claw, milk thistle)

However the daily allowance is only 120g, which seems so small. I feed Scooby 3 times a day, and it is like just a handful.

Is he really getting enough?

Any advice really appreciated, as I feel mean at the moment

I don't feed kibble so I can't tell you what is a 'normal' amount. It does vary by brand and dog. I do know that better quality food is more nutrient dense so you don't need to feed as much. But the numbers on the bag are just a guide, you can start there and increase or decrease as needed, it's not one size fits all.

Thank you for your reply, and do agree that its not one size fits all, maybe I should just feed him more, and I am sure I will see if he puts on excel weight

How much does your puppy weight?

My dog is a Chi x Dach and weights around 11.5 lbs. He is fed Fromm kibble and was getting 1/2 a cup a day, but since I'm trying to get him to lose 1 lb I feed him a little less then that. At 1/2 cup he was not losing any weight and was actually very slowly gaining since he also gets some treats. Since he only needs 430 calories a day it is VERY easy to over feed him, and to do so without even realizing it. In fact yesterday I looked at the little amount he was getting and thought to myself, "it's so little I'll just add a little more", and I had to stop myself. My boy is also fed 3 x a day with a before bedtime snack thrown in for good measure and he only gets a very small handful for lunch and the snack, a larger one for breakfast and dinner.

My advice is to start with the amount suggested on the guide and keep an eye on his weight if you notice he's losing weight then bump it up by a tablespoon or so, if he's gaining fat and losing his waist and tummy tuck then cut back by a teaspoon or a bit more. Remember that dogs should have a waist, the tummy should be tucked up and you should be able to feel the ribs when you lightly press them.

I feed both a rottie, and a cocker spaniel mix, and the difference in their food amount never fails to make me feel bad for the cocker spaniel. And yet, he is the one who could use to lose a few kilos! It seems crazy that such a small amount of food (im not sure exactly how much - we use a random cup and have just gone through trial and error) can more than sustain him - but it does! So as long as he doesnt start losing a heap of weight he should be fine :)

But do make sure to keep an eye on it - growing pups will sometimes need more than what their weight class says they will...

No advice about the amount of food, but wanted to let you know about another on line forum I am a member of called ilovemycockapoo.com which I recently joined as I wait for my cockapoo to join my family this Summer. It's all cockapoo owners so they have loads of specific advice. You might consider joining that forum as well. I love both forums and get great advice here and there :)
