About 10 days ago, my dog (heeler mix) randomly started throwing up. . . a lot. He vomited all night long on Friday, and part of Saturday until we got him to the vet. They said he was severely dehydrated, gave him fluids and anti-nausea meds, said he probably had bad gastritis and sent us home with some meds. he was ok that night, but he wasn't drinking water, so I took him to the e-vet on Sunday evening. He spent the night there, and went to the regular vet on Monday. He was eating fine when he was sick, and would take a few bites of boiled chicken each day from Saturday until Monday, but he wouldn't eat once he got home on Monday. He continued not eating all the way until Friday, and had 2 super dark stools during this time, so I took him to the e-vet again. They gave him fluids and recommended an ultrasound, which I got today (Monday) He wouldn't eat that entire time (I really thought he was going to die), but he was drinking water. On Friday, he started kind of gagging up his water, and burping a lot. I took him to the vet today, and she is treating him for esophagitis. The Ultrasound showed mild inflammation of his stomach, and I guess the fat around it. The vet said he does have blood in his stool. I have been stressing out horribly. I had almost come to terms with the fact that he wasn't going to make it, so to even hear that the vet is "cautiously optimistic" is encouraging. She also thinks he might have Addison's disease because of a few of the results, so she is testing for that. Does anyone have any experience with either esophagitis or Addison's? My dog is only about 8 (don't know for sure, we adopted him) and I don't feel like that is super old for a heeler, and he is so healthy otherwise. This has been a horribly stressful experience, and I'd just like to hear from someone who has been through it, so I can kind of know what I might expect.
