My puppy, Spike won't eat until about noon everyday. He doesn't seem to wake up hungry. This is really putting a wrench in the 3 times a day, lets get housebroken schedule.

I realize that every dog is unique, but anyone hear of this? Note that we both wake up around 7AM and when I go back to work in a couple of months it will be 5AM and I may not be able to make it home everyday for lunch so it will turn into an issue if it continues.

Any suggestions, comments?

i have never had this problem. I feel though that you maybe able to "fix" this by putting the food down at the feeding times you want and pick it back up a half hour later. Also you could try cutting down the amount that your feeding your dog, it maybe to much.

How much does your puppy weigh?
What are you feeding him?
How much at each feeding?

If he's not hungry in the am, then he does not need to eat and I would not worry! Once you go back to work and can't feed him at midday, you may find he is indeed hungry for a meal both am and pm.

A yorkie will likely eat a surprisingly small amount of food, so what you may be thinking is being very finicky, may be in actuality just a dog who does not need to eat much. He may also be old enough not to need 3 meals a day. Not all puppies need to eat that often.

The real test is to feel his ribs and hips. You should be able to feel his ribs/hip pretty easily, but not have him feel super bony.

I feed him a little less than a third of a cup of food at each feeding. I guess I won't worry as long as his health is not affected, he just has very little to lose. Being so small, I imagine he has a small amount of reserves.

On the other hand, he has waaaaay more energy than me so I guess he will eat as he is hungry and/or learn to eat when the food is presented.

That sounds like plenty of food for a wee little Yorkie dog. Seems like you are doing just fine! :)
