I want to take the wife, and we want to take the dogs, for a Winter trip to Vermont.

Being in Houston, you have to bug out every once in a while to see what the Northerners do.

Don't want the dogs to stress on the plane trip. Are dog sedatives safe and effective?

Sedation on flights are a big no-no it is a type of anaesthetic. And If there is no one to monitor vital signs (there never is in cargo) if the heart rate drops or gets too high the pet has a high risk of dying in these circumstances. And there have been a few over the years that have died.

I feel like this is something that someone (scientists, vets) should study more. Not all sedatives work the same way, it seems like there should be some option. But until there is that research done, what exists seems pretty clear about not sedating.
