Hi im new

need some advice please.

I have a 8yr old dog (half collie(lassie) and half sheep dog)

he has always ahd the lovliest coat but about 8weeks ago the hair around the back of his neck fell out almost over night.
It is now growing back slowly but surely but it is snow white whereas he used to have a white blaze and the rest was like a golden brown colour(pics below)
His head also has turned white as if he has aged over night or seen a ghost is the best way to explain it.
I took him to the vet 7-8 weeks ago when it happened and he said it was a flea bite that my dog was allergic to and gave me pills etc.
But why is it groing back white? As u can see his face looks even skinnier and aged

any help appreciated
thanks

I would get another vet's opinion. I wouldn't have know that was the same dog without you telling me.
WOW. I couldnt believe it and had to show my boyfriend for a second wow. I have never seen such a dramatic change. Did all of that hair fall out? around the face, head and neck? I know that some dogs coats can lighten when it falls out but thats a bit much! I agree to get a second opinion.

How often do you comb/brush you own hair?Your dog should be no different. They have a natural loss of hair, just as we do.
If you can't do it everyday,do it every other day.
Good suggestion about checking with your vet about any health issues.
Always feed a quality food.My brother said he noticed his dog shed less when he changed his dogs food.

thanks for the replies

i brush the dog about once a week.Hes an outdoor dog and has a large kennel where he is put at night as there is alot of sheep near my house and just in case he decides one night thats hes hungry we lock him in.Its like 12ftx12ft house :)

i feed him dry nuts which are proper complete dog food, which vets recommend for dogs diet :)

we look after him better than alot of humans get looked after trust me :)

his name is elvis lol

anyways i will take him to another vet and see what he/she says.

i will add tho that the dog is still as active as ever (maybe too active) but we do find he is a bit more in need of petting

thanks

yes only nuts (its a complete vitamin+mineral) and then any leftovers we have from dinner etc

dogs are not actually veg eaters by nature.Altough Vits+minerals are found in vegetables. They get them the odd time but never any fruit

like a dog hardly in the wild hardly goes and picks a bunch of grapes lol

No but dogs need the vitamins and minerals found in those...feeding primarily nuts...never heard of that... veggies have tons of vitamins and minerals dogs need if you are making your own food for them...also grapes are not good for dogs as far as what I have read

Found this website....
Grapes, Nuts, and Your Dogs Health -- Foods that Fido should Avoid

with this info.....
Nuts
Macadamia nuts should be avoided. In fact most nuts are not good for a dogs health since their high phosporus content is said to lead to bladder stones.

I had to research because I have never heard of an all nut diet for dogs..and table scraps are not good for them if you prepare them with seasonings and butter and whatnot, not saying you do, just stating.

Hi

just an update its bad news

my dog died last tuesday:confused::confused:

shortly before 1pm the postman arrives and like usual my dog "elvis" goes berserk.Even if i shout for him to stop he wouldn't lol (i liked that about him really :) )

anyways shortly after 1pm i looked out and he was ok.

3pm and i looked out and he was laying in the middle of the drive way dead 8yrs old :confused::confused:

gutted i am.

i have no idea how he died as i buried him out the back where my other dog is buried(he was 15) i think more than likely a heart attack but my dad is now saying as it was raining between 1-3pm it may of been lightning!has anyone heard of lightning killing a dog.Cos i checked the dog all over to make sure there was no marks on him and there was none.

anyways i wish now i took him to vet again even tho the vet had said it was only a flea bite.I saw the dog wasnt right but was just hoping he would get back to his old self.

i will say tho he was still very active.Im talking 12hrs a day constantly running around the garden and playing with my other dag (who is a lazy git lol)

anyways anyone who has a dog who is not sure what to do then do take it to the vets cos at the end of the day 50-100$ is not alot to pay for the health of the dog u love (family)

P.S when i said i feed him nuts i didnt mean peanuts etc.The nuts are like a full meal (like biscuits) but only the size of nuts....

heres some pics of him when he was fit
