The following is a list of basic rules and guidelines about what is and is not allowed while posting on our site. These rules are in addition to what is listed in our Terms Of Use. Please read through these sections before using our site, and contact us if you have any questions.

1. You may only have one account on this forum. No exceptions. If you have issues with your account or need help changing your username, password, email, etc., you can post for assistance or contact us. Members can also find help in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.

2. We expect our members to treat each other respectfully on DogForum.com. Although ideas and opinions may be challenged, name-calling, personal attacks, or other inappropriate behavior will not be allowed and may cause your account to be banned. Harassment is not tolerated in this community.
  • 2a. Community members may not question or debate moderators' decisions on the forum. In the event of a disagreement or questioning of a moderator's decisions or actions, users should contact the moderator(s) or admin(s) via private conversation (message).
  • 2b. Trolling behavior is not allowed on DogForum.com. This includes deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or highly offensive comments to disrupt the community or harass another member.
  • 2c. Do not disclose private information about members without their consent. (e.g., names, contact details, pictures, personal life, etc., including private messages, Facebook, email, and social media.)
3. Discriminatory remarks of any sort will not be tolerated. This includes degrading or offensive comments about an individual or group based on race, color, ethnicity, sex, sexuality, age, nationality, religious affiliation, or any other basis.

4. Please do not post messages or contact the moderation team on behalf of banned members. They are banned for a reason, and those reasons are not open for general discussion. However, banned users may contact the staff using Contact Us at the bottom of the page.

5. Member signatures and avatars should be appropriate. No excessively obscene or rude language/content is allowed. Your signature and avatar may not be used to harm, harass or insult fellow members or spread messages that are generally forbidden. We reserve the right to delete or edit members' signatures and avatars.

6. Advertising on DogForum.com is only allowed under specific conditions.
  • 6a. You are selling your personal dog-related property and posting in the community's Marketplace Classifieds (for sale) section.
  • 6b. You are an approved vendor posting in the appropriate Vendor section of the community. Additionally, vendors are allowed limited posting within the Marketplace (classifieds) as per the vendor rules.
  • 6c. Posting links to blogs, websites and social media channels may be deemed as advertising and is therefore prohibited. Links to social media for the purpose of showing your own dog's behaviour may be permitted if it is to ask advice or contribute to a thread. In this, your history matters; brand new members who post only or mainly social media links will be tolerated less favourably than long standing members with a record of regular contributions.
  • 6d. Selling or trying to give away your pet is not permitted. While we empathize with people who need to find new homes for their pets, the Dog Forum is not the place for it. There are rescue groups and other organizations that exist for the purpose of facilitating such things, and you should consult with them. Posts trying to re-home or sell dogs or other pets to Dog Forum members will be removed. Selling commercially or for profit is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate and permanent ban.
  • 6e. Advertising dogs for mating is not permitted. The forum supports and encourages responsible breeding, including carrying out breed specific health tests prior to mating. A stud or breeding bitch should be selected carefully, to ensure that the two dogs complement each other both physically and in temperament. We're here to advise and guide you if you wish to learn about ethical breeding and what it entails. Advertising dogs online for mating is not considered responsible and is therefore prohibited on this forum.
7. No adult-rated material, links to adult-rated material, nor any form of nudity may be posted. In addition to nudity, all forms of sexual content (images, jokes, etc.) are prohibited from being posted on the site. This includes images of scantily clad men or women. Please help us keep this site family-friendly.

8. Profanity is not permitted in this community.

9. Political comments or discussions are not permitted in this community.

10. Solicitations for personal and unrelated donations are prohibited. This includes GoFundMe and similar campaigns.

11. DogsForum.com should never be considered a substitute for seeking veterinary advice.

12. You may only post your own material and content. Posting copyrighted material, trademarks, and other violations of the DMCA is prohibited.

13. Respect the forum's posting guidelines regarding training methods. DogForum.com promotes a force free training philosophy based on learning theory and scientific research. We also promote educated debate on training methods. It is ok to discuss the merits of different training equipment as well as techniques, but it is NOT ok to promote or suggest any training equipment or technique that uses fear, pain, intimidation or is based in positive punishment ("P+"of the 4 quadrants).

14. If your dog’s behavior has escalated to the point of biting and drawing blood, the internet is not where you should be. It is the responsibility of the dog owner to prevent bites from happening and should your dog bite someone else you could be held civilly ($) and criminally (jail) responsible, and your dog may be euthanized. It is for the seriousness surrounding dog bites that The Dog Forum Team will make a judgment call and may close/remove/edit a thread once your dog has bitten someone, even yourself. Home interventions may have worked before the bite, but it is the general consensus that you find a professional trainer and/or behaviorist to help you solve the problem-BEFORE someone gets seriously hurt. Advice on locating professional help is held here Locating a trainer or behaviourist

Any violation of these rules may result in a private warning, formal warning, temporary ban, or permanent ban.

Our goal is to help with the site's continuing growth while also maintaining a family-friendly environment. Your assistance in achieving this goal is welcome and very appreciated. :)
