My almost 2 year old dog has had a sprained wrist for almost 2 months now. She had 2 X-rays done. She was put on Meloxicam for 2 weeks initially, which only helped her walk better but the swelling was still there. Then she did another 2 weeks of it with laser therapy and again, same thing. Does a sprain usually take this long to heal? Or is it usually this swollen for this long? My vet said she was going to refer me to a specialist but then asked to see her one last time to make sure that was the best route and now I’m deciding if I should just go right to a specialist instead of spending more money at my vet.

Sort tissue injuries can take ages to heal.

When my border collie had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulders (due to a condition called Osteochondritis Dissecans), the specialist said the joint itself would heal in about 2 months, however the soft tissue damage would take about 6 months to heal completely.
