I have 2 female Labradoodles (3 yr-olds & spayed).

My dogs are very docile with a very few exceptions. They have been raised indoors with with my wife and boys who are now 7 & 9.

One of their infrequent aggressive behavioral times is after I trim them at home (within close proximity of one another). After I'm done, they strut around one another, sniff one another, and have low growls. It's as it they don't recognize one another or something? They haven't fought in these situations, but their behavior has seemed very strange.

Anyone familiar with behavior like this, and know what might cause it? In other words...is anyone a dog mindreader

How do they act when you are trimming? Are you familiar with Calming Signals? Have you ever corrected them for resisting or fussing when you've groomed them?

Without more info, I kind of suspect that they are stressed during the groom, still stressed afterwards, and thus redirecting their stress towards each other. My recommendation would be to address any stress/discomfort they may feel about grooming and also separate them afterwards with something to occupy them (chew, stuffed kong, etc) until they are relaxed again.

I had a client who owned two sisters and they would do the same after being groomed. They would actually attack each other in the grooming room if we checked them out at the same time. They had to be separated for the rest of the day after a groom until they calmed down and then reintroduced.
