I have found treats that my Japanese Akita doesn't seem to like (she doesn't eat them) so instead she rolls her neck on them. She isn't food aggressive at all & these are the only treats she does it to. They are Merrick Grain/Gluten free power bites, Turducken recipe.
Has anyone else experienced this? Usually, if she's not interested in something she pushes it away with her nose.

Mine does that. Raw liver, he'll pick it up and fling it. Raw pancreas, he tends to rub his neck in it. Once in a while he'll rub his neck in some dead and really smelly outside, and loves every minute of it.

My dog will do this with treats she doesn't like too... I interpret it as "just because I don't want to eat this, doesn't mean I don't want to mark my scent so that no one else wants it!"

Dogs are territorial, and somewhat silly :)

Best to you and your pup!

My friends dog does this with her ball or frisbee on walks , she says katie is marking her toys with her scent so other dogs know they are hers.
