I will admit, I'm a bit of a worry-wort but I HAD to ask someone since the vet is closed. I was playing with one of my dogs about 20 minutes ago. I was reaching behind my back to get the toy from her and I grabbed something that I can only assume was her eye. She yelped pretty bad and ran away from me. She came back to me pretty quickly and let me look at her eye. She wasn't squinting and the eye didn't look red or swollen. She doesn't seem to have any issues with light or anything either. I guess my question is, if I did poke her eye (since it happened behind my back I'm not really sure) what are the chances I actually caused damage? She is my baby and I feel absolutely awful. She's sleeping peacefully now but I am terrified I'm going to wake up in the morning to a dog with serious eye issues. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone else have suggestions on what to look for? I'm so worried I hurt my baby. 馃槱

I can imagine how you must feel. I do hope she is alright. All I can suggest is that sometimes some dogs (or some breeds in particular) can yelp as a reaction to being startled & made to jump as though it were pain. It sounds like you did a thorough check over, I would monitor her to make sure she's not scratching at her eye or if it starts watering etc.. then get the vet to check over.

As long as there is no serious damage to the cornea, she should be ok. Check her eye frequently for redness or irritation or swelling. If you see any of those signs, or if she seems to be bothered by her eye, a trip to the Vet will be necessary.
