I currently live in a part of my city where the closest off-leash, completely fenced in dog park is 20-25 minutes away. While this isn't super far, it is definitely far enough. I live in a thriving area of town that is very populated and feel there should be a dog park closer. My question is, do people or would people pay ($50/year, $5/month) if there was a dog park in our area. Obviously, I don't have the funds to build one for free, but would consider building one if it could break even and/or make me a small profit. I feel many people in my area have the same issue and I feel $50 is reasonable for a whole year. Any thoughts on membership dog parks, or is there anyone who does currently use this type of service. Pros and Cons of starting one? Thank you!

What type of dog park?

Would things like poop bags, and trash cans, water fountains, agility equipment, wading pool, be included?

Will the park be divided into designated sections, like large and small dogs?

What will the rules of the park be?

Most importantly. Will their be monitors who are well versed in dog body language and able to revoke a membership if the person has a dog that is always causing problems and can ask a member to please leave if a dog is causing problems?

I personally don't like most dog parks, I think that they tend to be accidents waiting to happen, but I have heard of some that are well run and may be willing to spend $50 a year if I thought I had a dog with the temperament for one and one who could benefit from the interaction with other friendly, good natured, dogs.

Yes, it would have all those things listed as well as a temperament test. It would also have rules to follow. I appreciate the reply, and was just curious if this something people are willing to pay for if more conveniently located than current parks. I have read about some of these existing but can't much info on how many people utilize these and how many people are signed up and such. Thanks again.

There's one of those near me except the fee is $15 a year.

Mine has a small dog area and a large dog area and 24/hr surveillance which is great. I don't know how you'd do the temperament test. I'm not sure most people would be up for what they'd see as a hassle which is too bad.

Good luck though! Sounds like a cool idea :)

I just met someone who was telling me about a dog park in his Brother in Law's higher end housing complex/HOA neighborhood. You have to be a resident, your DOG has to be tagged and a resident of the HOA and it is a lit grass dog park next to the community center...with a full service outdoor bar that is open till 11:00pm!

THAT is a dog park I could get into!
