Hi !!

So I'm currently living with a host family and they have a very cute papillon who is around 4-5 years old I think. We got along so well, she would always come find me in my room and sleep in it. However, one time I was petting her while she was sitting next to me on my bed and must have accidentally petted somewhere wrong as she yelped and left my room.

I decided to give her some space and then went up to apologise. But I have never owned a dog before so I wasn't quite sure what to do. My host family said she was just being sensitive as she was one her period but it was been almost 2 weeks now and she still doesn't come find me in my room or if I get her to come in she never stays for long.

But she still listens to me and plays with me. I'm not sure what to do anymore, please let me know if you have experienced anything similar!

Hi there, trying to bump this for you so maybe someone can give better advice. So maybe she was on her period and cranky? If she yelped it makes me think she was hurt or has a sore spot. If she still plays with you and listens to you then I’m sure she still trusts you, give her time. Maybe coax her with some treats on your bed, her terms. Don’t make her, it will happen. Be patient;)

Bitches in heat can certainly exhibit different behaviors than their normal day to day behavior. Mine fortunately gets super lovey-dovey and clingy much more than her usual self. I think Floki's thoughts are good, be patient and don't force it.
