Hi,
My mom and I took our dog to the vet several days ago on Friday May 20, 2016. Since the visit, he is very crooked to the right side and can’t walk straight, he kind of walked a little sideways but couldn’t stand without support. His ribcage and everything is more prominent on the right side now and he goes in kind of a C shape position while standing or laying. He cannot walk at all at this point and is kind of stuck in this C shape position. At the visit, my mom asked the vet to check the progression of our dog’s arthritis so the Vet moved all of his limbs around and stretched them out etc. The Vet gave him his rabies vaccine and cut his nails. After everything, they took him back to get an x-ray of his lungs since they thought he had a tumor in his lung over a year ago. The Vet said he doubts it was a tumor because it did not get any bigger and looks different, he thinks radiology may have been mistaking. Anyways, the Vet Tech brought our dog back into the room we were in with our other pet and the Veterinarian and our dog that got the x-rays and everything just laid on the floor during the rest of our time there. Our dog walked out to the car and seemed okay when we got home. He just laid there and did not get up at all to go outside or anything. The next morning, he was still laying in the same spot so I picked him up and tried to stand him up. He is very crooked to the right side and couldn’t walk straight, he kind of walked a little sideways but couldn’t stand without support. His ribcage and everything is more prominent on the right side now and he goes in kind of a C shape position while standing or laying. He cannot walk at all at this point and is kind of stuck in this C shape position. He is 14 and had a little trouble walking prior to the vet visit, his back end would be slouched down a little but he was still more than capable of walking around and lying in different positions etc. I called the Vet and told him that the dog was not like this before the visit and he said there wasn’t much to do, it may or may not get better. I’m not sure if something happened when the techs took him to x-ray if he got dropped or something or if the Vet pulling on the dog’s legs would have anything to do with his condition now. I was thinking maybe a muscle relaxer would help? I’m thinking that since his body seems totally pulled in one direction in his back like scoliosis looking could be from muscle strain and that muscle pulling everything to one side. He is currently on Prednisone for arthritis as well as Gabapentin and Tramadol. Please share any advice, feel so bad he can’t move and I am not sure if I should leave him laying all day or pick him up every once in a while just to get him in a different position. He is urinating while laying and cannot get up to defecate. Thanks so much.
