I have a chow hound, so this has never been an issue, but if my puppy wasn't finishing it's portion then I would have no issue picking it up and re-feeding later. To be fair, you could also lessen the amount your feeding or add something yummy like wet food on top to entice feeding.

My dog never finishes the portion of food I give him, he always leaves something. Is it ok if whatever he doesn't it I feed him to him later on the day? or should I throw away?
Why not feed him less to start with. Reduce the meal by 1/4 cup and see how he does. Do you use a measuring cup when you feed? If the food is kibble you can feed later but I would not leave wet food out then feed later.

How long has the dog been on this food? Is it possible that he doesn't like it? If he's a healthy weight, I'd suggest simply altering the amount you offer to what he'll likely finish in one sitting.

Just to be clear, this behavior did not just start out of nowhere, correct? If it did, that's reason for concern and investigation.

My dog's favorite time to eat is right after everyone's in bed. I give her food in the AM she munches it. I leave it out all day and she snacks all day. She mostly eats around 11pm. She's a free-feeder. I'm really lucky as all my friends have dogs that gobble food in seconds...I think she just needs to take her time. One of my aunts gobblers got bloat from eating too quickly, so I would rather encourage an all-day muncher than taking her food till she's starving and encouraging gobbling.
