So today my dog completely broke off his dew claw. It bled a little. He doesn't seem to be in much pain. It hasn't slowed him down at all. He's still running and playing like normal. I cleaned it. I can't keep it wrapped because he keeps chewing it off. Does it need to stay wrapped? If I keep it clean is that good enough?
Can I just keep a good eye on it and make sure it isn't swelling or getting infected?

Hi. I’m not a vet or anything. So you know. I would suggest to keep it clean. Check a few times a day. I use a spray bottle filled half and half distilled water and peroxide for wounds. Remove any extra hair if you can. Monitor for pain and swelling, any gait changes. Keep him quieter while it is still healing. I may apply Arnicare gel. It may not be a bad idea to put him in a soft collar cone so he doesn’t lick it or chew it. Maybe crate him at night. No jumping around. Your call. I would also put an ice pack on it for three minutes. Monitor for infection, pain and swelling.
