My 7yo chihuahua/jack Russell mix recently had a bladder stone removal surgery back on July 12th. the incision wound was closed up with dissolvable sutures and it has healed pretty much perfectly and never had issues with it since then. However, today, I just saw that the bottom of her incision is red and slightly swollen. The black line in her incision had been there previously (see picture) and I’m assuming the black was the dissolvable sutures that are still present. You can see her long incision line is already healed above the red part. I’ve touched it and it isn’t hot to touch, it doesn’t bother her when I do touch it, no puss or discharge oozing, and it doesn’t smell bad at all. It definitely wasn’t there last night or this morning when I carried her like a baby before I left for work. Does this call for a vet appointment because it’s definitely infected or just wait a couple days to see if the swelling will go down? I placed a cool compress on it to help the swelling. I’m just worried because she’s had such a crappy life prior to adoption on July 7th, and I’m feeling like her health is becoming a money pit. I just don’t want to make an unnecessary vet visit for them to tell me to wait out the swelling.

Thanks for any answers. I appreciate it.

You could try calling the vet and see if they have any at home remedies to try first. But looks like a vet visit to me

Looks to me like a Vet needs to check that. I wouldn't wait, if it is infected, you need to get some treatment going sooner rather than later.
