This my sweet little dog woody. My boyfriend’s parents got him from the shelter several years ago, and were told he was a miniature schnauzer. My boyfriend and I now own him, and I do not think for one, he is a mini—he seems more like standard size to me. But now we are questioning if he may be mixed with something else. We don’t get him the typical schnauzer cut per our preference so off the bat a lot of people don’t know what breed he is, but to me, some of his features just seem a little different. Thoughts? He is 24 lbs.

He's definitely not purebred, that's for sure. His appearance of course suggests that, but they also rarely end up in shelters if they have papers (it's possible, but rare). Regular schnauzers are usually around 35 - 50 pounds, so I don't think he is a full-sized schnauzer either, though it could be in his bloodline somewhere. In fact, with a healthy body score (from the photos he looks a little on the heavier side) I think he would fit neatly into to weight range for a mini schnauzer.

His ears don't quite sit like a schnauzer's either and he doesn't seem to have the same frame. He may have schnauzer in him, I'm not denying that, especially with that little kick of fur on his snout. But I definitely think he's a bitsa - bits of that and bits of this

All three of my rescues were listed as schnauzer mixes. The only one with a completed Embark test is a very low-content schnauzer - something like 10%.I suspect the other two will be similar, once we send in the tests.

Shelters typically recognize two breeds: schnauzer, if it's a smaller dog and lab if it's a larger dog.

Agree, not full mini schnauzer, but certainly could have some mini schnauzer. To me, he is mini schnauzer size in comparison with the other dog. His legs look longer because they are trimmed close, but I do think he's definitely mixed with another breed. Totally just a guess, but I get some jack russell vibes with the shape/size of the snout and body frame.

Not a standard schnauzer imo, they are gurthier and just larger dogs in frame height and size.
