I've had my sweet little Alaskan Klee Kai for a week now, and today he made some dryish gagging cough sounds during our walk. He finished blowing his coat recently but is still shedding. Is it possible he has a hairball? I saw some hair in his stool this afternoon too, which made me wonder. Thanks for your feedback.

They can but it's not a common dog thing.

How old is he? Where did you get him?

Could be a random cough (pulling on leash?), could be kennel cough (if it continues... )

He's five years old, and I adopted him from a soon-to-be-retired licensed breeder out in Western Mass. I think maybe it was just a random cough because he hasn't done it since then. I also heard on the radio later that night that the air quality in the Boston area was especially bad that afternoon. Maybe that had something to do with it? Who knows. He's been fine since then.
