I love my vet office and every vet in their except one. I have it in my dogs files that she is not to tend to my dogs. she is cold, never smiles, doesnt play with my dogs to make them feel comfortable so she's not allowed near my dogs again.

I'm sorry you had a horrible experience!

Cosmo is reaaally weird about strangers handling him. I can flip him upside down and toss him any which way I want but the moment a stranger reaches for him he completely shuts down and hides behind me and squeezes under me. The last time we visited the vet she gave up on getting his temp because he was terrified and kept sitting down and scooping his butt so she couldn't get it.

I understand that he's difficult to examine and we've been trying to train it out of him but fear is really hard to manage in a dog who doesn't understand that it's for his own good so we haven't unfortunately made a ton of progress. A lot of the staff has been kind of annoyed seeming with it and they don't try to work with me when I suggest offering him treats to get him into a workable position. Our regular vet is wonderful though, she's very warm and helpful. When he had to get his hips xrayed she made sure I saw them and knew exactly what was going on and assured me he was fine. She was also really gentle with him so that was nice.

You know you'd think if you were going to get a job working with animals that you'd be good with animals. I'm surprised at how often this is not the case!

I can relate a bit to that.

I like my regular vet but they have 2 or 3 vets working there. I have met two of them. One is laid back and friendly and handles Chester well. Then there is the other one that I have met. He talks to me in a condescending tone and tells me facts about dogs that I already know and are kinda obvious and are also things I already do .. example: "Your dog should only have a bath once a month.", "he needs lots of exercise" and "Your dog should be on a high quality food and food should be switched slowly." Maybe he talks to me in this way because I am a younger dog owner.. I really don't know. Chester does not like him either, he will tense up during the checkup.

The negative vet I thankfully only saw once. The positive one is enough motivation to keep going to this vet office.
It is frustrating though!

Yes this has happened to us. This year I was lucky to find a great hospital with two amazing doctors. They're fantastic. But one went on maternity leave and they added a third Doctor. She isn't very nice and a bit condescending. She also doesn't give us the same discounts the other vets do because we are big into animal rescue and Tyrion is a special needs dog. We just ask which doctors are in or specifically request one of the two doctors we like to avoid her.

Yes, I'm in the same situation. There is one vet at the practice I use that I won't see again. When I make an appointment, I tell them not to book me with that vet. She's much the same as you describe. Cold attitude, condescending tone and doesn't appear to like dogs. She's very young. It's possible that she's discovered that this is not the field for her. If it had just been one time, I'd chalk it up to her having a bad day but she was the same way the second time we saw her. Whatever the reason for her attitude, I don't need a vet like that.
