Diarrhea Crate problem

I have a five month old dane who is great. He has no accidents in the house and can do fine in the kennel for several hours during the day. However, at night is another problem. He can go out at 11pm and within two hours he has diarrhea all over the kennel. It seems to be stress related. He does fine during the day when we are gone. He can go up to 5 hours no accidents. At night, however, completely different story. I have tried putting clothes that smell like us. I have tried comfort zone and herbal oils, night lights and full lights, radio and Tv. I do not know what to do. We cut off food and water by 6pm. I do not coddle him or make it more traumatic. He even loves his crate and kennels himself when he gets scared... Any ideas on why night is such a big deal?

That's strange because with many dogs it's the other way around. Where is his crate? Could you possibly put his crate in the bedroom with you so he can see you? What's the quality of his stool during the day? Do you know of anything that does scare your dog? Are there any noises that go on in your home or neighborhood at night that might be scaring him?

This DOES sound stress related but I think if he has diarrhea every night health issues should be explored too. And if he is having diarrhea I would be careful about restricting his water lest he get dehydrated.
