I have reopened the thread in light of a further release from the CDC (21st April)

It refers to the tigers and other large cats in New York who developed respiratory conditions after contact with an employee who had Covid 19, and says that investigations are continuing.

However, it also says ”Based on the limited information available to date, the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low.”

It recommends protecting pets from infection from people who have the virus, in a similar way to the way we protect ourselves - by avoiding contact with others.

So to be clear, it says that it appears animals may contract the virus from people, but not that humans may contract it from pets. There is ”no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.”

The full article is here.

I will leave this thread open for comment but please let's restrict comments to be about what we know, no unhelpful speculation or scaremongering.
