My dog, Bailey, loves playing with tennis balls but she also likes chewing them. She tries to rip out the "furs" and ends up eating them. Then, because it gets stuck in her throat,he ends up coughing. Should I not give her any more tennis balls? I'm afraid she might really choke on it someday...
Hi,
we have a little rat terrier who loved tennis balls but he to would pull the "fur" off of it and it would get stuck in his throat and we would have to actually pull it out. i would take them away to make sure that nothing like that like happened. Instead of the tennis balls we found rubber bones (they sell them at wal-mart from 5-10$ depending on size). he loves them and he cant rip them apart. he's had 2 of them for over a year. i dont have to worry about him getting choked on them. I hope you find something that your baby loves or he grows out of chewing the tennis balls. They are just so cute when they are playing with their toys.
Best to talk to your vet. Tennis balls can be risky in several ways, choking and foreign body being one. Vets also often see a lot of damage to the teeth of dogs who chew tennis balls, so you should ask for a recommendation that is best for his health.
