I am hoping someone can help!! My Goldendoodle is almost 6 months old and has had chronic diarrhea for much of her puppyhood. She also occasionally vomits but it is probably on once every 2 weeks or so. She has been to 3 different vets, had several stool samples tested, a complete diarrhea panel ($250 later), had all of the snap tests, etc. They cannot find any issues. She's has had times when she's somewhat lethargic but mostly is otherwise normal. She plays, eats and drinks. I have tried various foods - did the boiled chicken and rice only for awhile and she's currently on prescription Royal Canin gastrointestinal fiber response dry food mixed with some cooked ground turkey and chicken broth. She has been on a probiotic and I add fiber to her food (Konsol). Nothing has worked.

The only thing that seemed to help some (she could at least make it through the night without waking me up 3-4 times with diarrhea) was when she was on metronidazole. She's been on it twice recently. The first time for 5 days and the second time (several weeks later) for 10 days. When she is on the meds her stools are somewhat more formed (although not hard) and, as I mentioned, she sleeps through the night with no accidents during day or night for the most part.

I am so frustrated and have spent thousands trying to figure this out. I am also wondering if this isn't stunting her development because she's not getting all of the nutrients.

Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to any advice!

What I would do is make her a mixture of cooked ground pork and sweet potato. Do not feed her anything but that food, so no treats! Feed that to her for a week and see if she gets better. If she does then it's something in her kibble that she is very sensitive to and you'll have to work to figure out what it is.

The reason for the pork is I'm pretty sure she's already been on a beef based food, but might not have been on one that only contained pork so it's a novel protein.

No shivering. I have tried ground beef, ground chicken and ground turkey. I haven’t tried ground pork. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try that next. Doc took yet another stool sample today To send off to the lab and gave me another round of metronidazole. She also suggested I give our dog Imodium every 12 hours.

A big raw bone so your pup can grind their teeth on the knuckle end (I take the rest off her) can really firm up poop!!!!! It's a good source of calcium too. Supervised only. There's also canine digest-aid pro-vida. Just remember that stress/anxiety can cause probs like this, so see if it seems to be related to that. eg new person place animal around at the time or travelled that day. Was there loud music then upset tum. They can be very sensitive.
