Why do you want a lab? Are you sure it is going to be the right fit? They normally require A LOT of exercise.I'm looking into getting a puppy. There's one thing I'm set on, Labs. That's right! Before anything else, I decide on the breed.
1!How many dogs?
I think that gender is more of a personal preference. I would focus on temerament and energy level so that you choose a dog that fits well with your lifestyle.Which gender?
Again it would be personal preference.Black labs or white labs?
Yes!Should they be spayed/ neutered?
My old dog was. It holds special memories. Also, we know that breed. We're used to it.Please PLEASE do not get a dog because you like what you saw in a movie....especially a lab..... what MAKES you want a lab? If the answer is looks please reconsider.... there is no such thing as a white lab. And you really do not need 2 puppies in a household.
We aren't renting. My grandmother is moving and giving us the old house, which is as big as where we live now. They have a good-size block where we can walk the dog(s).You are 11 right?
Remember you're parents will have the final say about a dog!
They are the ones who will be financially and legally responsible for the dog, not to mention that they will need to provide most of the daily care!
Read up on raising 2 puppies together! It often does not work out like planned.
Like Plushie said pups raised together tend to hyperbond which leads to a ton of behavior problems!
This is a good place to start!
And again, why are you so set on a lab?
You are moving to NYC. Are your parents going to take a lab jogging through Central Park EVERYDAY no matter what? If not, then a lab probably won't be a good fit. A calmer, lower energy dog would be a better fit for city life!
Also, like I said before, if your parents are going to rent, then you may very well have limitations on the number and size of dogs. Finding housing that allows large dogs can be very difficult.
I'm not tying to discourage you. I really do understand why you want a puppy so badly. Its just that I truely believe that you and your family need to think about the different things mentioned in this thread before getting a dog or dogs!
