Hello, we are trying to figure out which breeds our marvelous mutt is.. She is 4 yr. old, about 30-40 lbs and about 17" from the floor to her front shoulders. She is very interested in squirrels and groundhogs. She loves to sniff around and point before she finds "her spot". She is very mouthy..when new people or anyone in general comes to the house she aggressively barks and her hair will stand up. However she has never bitten! She will rub against the person insisting they pet her while the whole time she will growl under her breath. She is very loyal, especially with our Asperger 8 yr. old son. He can squish her face up and she will lay there and take it. He is not mean to her, just makes different faces with her ( happy, derby, mad). She sleeps with him every night. She is very protective of her family and house. Her ears have these long hairs that hang out from where they attach to her head, she has longer hair in between her pad on her paws, her tail has extra long hair and I would say the back of her legs like elbowish area also have these longer hairs, also her belly hairs are long too. When I'm telling you her hair is long I'm talking her normal fur is about 1" and the long pieces are 2-3". Her fur is a deep red, with a melanistic mask and a beautiful mascara look, her nose is typically black with the snow effect during winter, her eyes are dark brown but can lighten up in the sun. Her tail is normally downwards, unless she is pointing, running, playing, etc. then it can curl towards her head (not like a pig, just curved). She does not have any blue or black marks in her mouth or on her tongue. Everything is pink in her mouth. I don't know if I hit everything that would help us figure her out.
